2010 EARTH DAY FESTIVAL

APRIL 17TH, FORSYTH PARK

8 a.m. to 11 a.m. RECYCLERAMA!!

Paint, Paint, PAINT!  What can we say?  Its our most popular facet to our Recyclerama, most likely because its the one-and-only time you can recycle old household paint here in Savannah!  We'll also be taking many other items so check back as we confirm our recyclers!

11 a.m. TO 3 p.m. FESTIVAL!!

Exhibitors, workshops, and live entertainment...and did we mention the best part?  Its completely FREE!  So leave some room in your brain for environmental education and come prepared to enjoy a lovely day in Forsyth Park learning and listening!

What's the story behind Earth Day?

The original Earth Day was pushed into action by a grassroots movement concerned with the growing degredation of the environment.  A U.S. Senator from Wisconsin, Gaylord Nelson, made the date official and it is a celebrated occurence in many countries throughout the world.  Though Earth Day is always April 22nd, we choose a Saturday for the Festival to allow for maximum participation, educational opportunities, and fun!

The Earth Day Festival in Savannah has continued to grow and improve over its 13 years of existence.  This festival focuses on raising awareness in the community on environmental topics and concerns, both regionally and globally.  The Festival is now organized through the City of Savannah's Water and Sewer Department, specifically the Environmental Affairs Office.  If you have any questions or concerns about the Earth Day Festival, please contact Sarah Barlow at 912-651-6943 or email sarah_barlow@savannahga.gov.
