Earth Day 2009-TOTALS

The 2009 Earth Day Festival was a tremendous success with estimates of 9,000 people in attendance and over 85 exhibitors!  The Savannah Bicycle Campaign counted about 300 bike riders in their Community Bike Ride and even picked up some new members! 

And what about that entertainment?  Michael Maddox is always entertaining and talented and there were some great Earth Day songs and poetry from A.W.O.L. !  And the entire crowd was left wanting more from The Corduroy Road!  They were amazingly talented and energetic and we were so grateful to have them close out our Festival! 

In addition, the Recyclerama topped last year's collections in several categories!! 

Here are the totals collected at the RecycleRama:

• 5460 gallons of paint-thank you ASHLAND!!!
• 1200 tires-thank you Keep Savannah Beautiful
• 250 gallons of oil-thank you Coastal Refining Co. 
• 80 cell phones-thank you Hands on Savannah 
• 1 1/2 truckloads of electronics-thank you Goodwill 
• 40 pairs of eyeglasses-thank you Lions Club
• 1 truckload of used furniture-thank you Structured Green
• 90 car batteries, 250 lbs of consumer batteries-thank you Batteries Plus

We estimate that about 60,000 lbs of materials were diverted from the landfill!  Thanks to YOU for recycling and a big thank you to each organization for recycling these items!
