Water Conservation

Water is rapidly becoming one of the most talked-about global sustainability issues.  Right here in Georgia, we have been faced with a tough drought and ever-growing demand issues.  We can all do something about this:  using less water is something every single one of us can do to help ensure we will always have clean, high-quality drinking water.

Start Using Less Water Today:

INSIDE

  • Save up your pasta water in a pitcher and RE-USE it to rinse recyclables!
  • Take 5 minute showers or turn the water off while lathering
  • Keep a bucket near your shower and collect any wasted pre-shower water to use around the house or in the pet's water dish
  • Place a plastic bottle with pebbles in your toilet tank to use less water every flush
  • Compost!
  • Install a low-flow showerhead and faucet aerators
  • Check for leaks!
  • Install a graywater system
  • Turn the water off whenever you can:  brushing your teeth, shaving, washing your hands, rinsing the dishes, etc.
  • Only wash full loads in the dishwasher and washing machine
  • DRINK TAP WATER!  Its more sustainable than bottled water!

OUTSIDE

  • Collect rain water or drips from your window ac unit to water the lawn or garden
  • Never leave a hose running when washing the dog, car, etc.
  • Clean driveways and sidewalks with a BROOM
  • Cover swimming pools to reduce water loss by evaporation
  • Use native plants that are water-sippers in your landscaping
  • Use graywater to irrigate

LIFESTYLE

  • Refuse towel service at hotels and reduce washings
  • Request tap water at restaurants or refuse water if you are not going to drink it
  • Keep our water clean; make your own cleaning products with vinegar, borax, and baking soda
  • Volunteer for river cleanups and do not litter
