              RecycleRama

              Picture
RecycleRama provides a venue for citizens to take personal action in protecting the environment.  RecycleRama is a recycling drive aimed at reducing improper disposal of potential water pollutants.  In 2011 in just three hours 7840 gallons of paint, 289 lbs of medications, 180 gallons of used motor oil, 60 gallons of waste cooking oil, 550 tires, and 250 car batteries were collected.  The success of RecycleRama has led to the creation of several year round collection programs, such as the Medicine Cabinet Cleanout program which provides free envelops for pharmaceuticals to be mailed in for proper disposal.

The City of Savannah is lowering your eco footprint in one more way this Earth Day with our partner the Carbonfund.org Foundation.  This year we’re offsetting the greenhouse gas emissions from our RecycleRama by supporting an Environmental Resources Trust validated truck stop electrification project in Georgia.  So, if you can’t walk or bike those recyclables, bring them anyway and don’t sweat your time spent in the car drop-off line.
